A Little Haven

Located at the tip of the South Fork peninsula of Long Island, there is a sleepy little fishing haven known as Montauk.

Montauk has six state parks, and is famous for its fishing; claiming to have more world saltwater fishing records than any other port in the world.  Located only 20 miles off the Connecticut coast, it is home to the largest commercial and recreational fishing fleet in New York State.

 



The Montauk Point Light was the first lighthouse in New York State, and is the fourth oldest active lighthouse in the United States (opening in 1796).

But with all that said, it is definitely a sweet escape from the busyness of life; allowing me a place to unwind, rest at sunny seaside shores, cool off in crystal clear waters of the ocean, catch up on reading those books that were put aside, and walk through the quaint village for shopping and some special treats.

 

It’s a place where each evening’s choice of dinner has a history and flavor of its own; great clam bars, restaurants serving the freshest seafood, local Mexican restaurants with a flair for seafood, and even a spot for an amazing BBQ dinner. Many with beautiful Montauk sunsets as a guaranteed special on the menu!

There’s even historical breakfast stops – so popular that each morning there are lines of people waiting for a pancake breakfast!  And one of my favorites – Bird on the Roof!

And the Village Green – where you can stroll through and find local musicians or artists displaying their talents daily.   

And of course – there's the most breathtaking sunsets – changing color each and every night.

 

After a few years, this summer I once again vacationed in Montauk.  The minute we arrived, it felt as though we were there just a few months before.  

This year - we decided to rise early and head to the beach for a breathtaking sunrise.  Montauk did not disappoint!

Montauk is definitely a favorite little haven of mine.
